Supposing you were in the market for a person to share your life with.

You go to a bar and you ask any attractive looking person that simple question.

Before you do there are two things you should consider: –

  1. You’re likely to get a figurative or actual slap in the face.
  2.  If they say “yes” you probably wouldn’t want them as a life partner.

It’s the same when selling to a prospect: ask too soon and you’re likely to experience an awkward rejection. But if they accept your overtures you’re likely to win a client whose grasp on supplier loyalty isn’t exactly what you’d hope for.

Build the relationship: establish trust, rapport and shared values then pop the question. You’re both more likely to enjoy the answer.
